Hello all,
How are you? The trip to Cangyuan has been a great success. Thank you very much for what you have done for our preparation. Your course regarding environment was very welcome in the schools.
The students there are from Wa Minority, Dai Minority, from Burma with most students from Wa Minority. They have very limited understanding regarding the outside world, very innocent but also very shy. So we used some pretty exciting methods (for instance, we let them sing) and let them join by some interesting ways. We made some minor changes to the program and add some more interactive things. For example, we let them say about the functions of trees, let them do the competition about the environmental knowledge. Then we gave them small gifts as awards. We also connected the program with the content of biological chain in their text book. This has made them even more interested. During the class, there is not a single student talking at all. All of them were listening very carefully and the interactive atmosphere was very good too. The teachers’ evaluation is also pretty good. You really helped us a lot.
Maybe because of the minorities’ naturally born worship for nature, although maybe the students from Cangyuan haven’t heard of the phrase “Environmental Protection”, they still usually don’t use plastic bags at all. A sort of bags is prevailing there, I saw people using them all the time on the streets. So regarding the practice in the Greennovate program, we didn’t use it. But we brought some tree seedlings from Kunming and planted with the students and teachers. Here I want to point out: In Yonghe Middle School, the students even plant vegetables by themselves and this is one subject in their labor skill lesson. Then the grown vegetables will be sold out to the canteen of the school. The students can eat the vegetables grown up by themselves! This method really made us “wow”.
Best regards,
Flora
