In March 2008, GECKO launched the pilot program to three schools in Renhuai: Guizhou- GuanYing Middle School, Renhuai No. 1 High School, and Renhuai Jiu Du High School. Over the next 4 months, the GECKO team traveled to Guizhou three times, bringing the curriculum to over 1,000 youth in the area.
In June 2008, with the completion of the curriculum, the students and GECKO team made environmental commitments to implement the lessons they had learned over the past few months, forming an ECO team.
